When Adams Electric retires Ownership Rewards (patronage capital) to its current and former members, traditionally some of that money remains unclaimed after a year. By law, this money cannot be used to affect rates; therefore, the co-op uses the unclaimed funds to support high school and adult post-secondary education scholarships, invest in community projects and events, and aid members struggling to pay their electric bills.
But ultimately, the goal is to return the funds to their proper owners.
