My community and volunteer service include the following:
I am currently a member of the East Berlin Lions Club and have served as their treasurer since 2014. I also served for six years as a volunteer with Adams Electric on the Member Advisory Committee (now MEG—Member Engagement Group) and one year on the Credentials and Election Committee. In addition, I have served as a board director for Heritage Valley Federal Credit Union (HVFCU) for ten years and held the positions of secretary and treasurer. I also served for five years as the chairman of their supervisory (audit) committee. Finally, I was the president of the York Chapter of Credit Unions for four years and continued a directorship with the Harrisburg Chapter of Credit Unions from 1991 through 2000.
I have lived in East Berlin since 2001 and my family includes my wife Karen, and daughter Alexa. I am retired after a career as President/CEO of POSTMARK Credit Union in Harrisburg.
I feel the strengths I could bring to the co-op board would be my 35 plus years of experience working for a co-op. I was employed in the credit union industry since 1980 and held the positions of President/CEO and Executive Vice President during that timeframe. My career in credit unions has grounded me with a thorough knowledge of how co-operatives work, whether it is electric service delivered or financial services offered to members. Serving as a senior executive through the years provided me with extensive management experience. Also, my degree in accounting provides a strong backdrop to financial interpretation and analysis.
I think some of the biggest challenges facing Adams Electric will be the continuation of offering reliable and affordable power for the members along with incorporating technological advances in distributed generation, electric vehicles and energy storage. Setting policies and strategic initiatives within the renewable energy space will also be a challenge for Adams Electric.
I would like to continue serving as a director because I have the time to commit to the position. In addition, I can continue to contribute to the cooperative’s future direction and help accomplish our overall goal of providing safe and reliable power at a reasonable cost for the cooperative membership.
I have served as a Director for 2 years and would like to continue in this role. I have obtained the Credentialed Cooperative Director (CCD) certification and continue my progress towards the Board Leadership Certificate (BLC) along with experience and exposure to most of the Boards’ committees. My career experience with cooperatives and a degree in Accounting provides me with management and accounting knowledge. I can also commit the time needed to be an effective and productive director.
