Adams to begin pole inspections

Each year, Adams Electric Cooperative surveys and inspects its power lines and utility poles for damage, decay, and other issues that could impact reliability. Using contractors, these inspections will start to take place in February.

Each year, the co-op inspects approximately 10% of its nearly 53,500 utility poles using the contracting company, Osmose Utility Services, Inc. This year’s inspection is expected is starting in Orrtanna and will move through service areas including: Bendersville, Lake Meade and the Hampton area. Affected members of the cooperative will receive a postcard about two weeks before inspection takes place.

Once an Osmose crew is on-site, passers-by may see digging taking place at the base of utility poles, and possibly identification markings placed on the poles. You will also the contractors in Osmose logoed white trucks.

Any pole found not meeting established strength requirements will be classified as rejected, documented, and reported back to the cooperative to be scheduled for replacement in a timely manner. Poles with lesser levels of decay will have that decay removed and treatment applied to the remaining “good wood,” giving the pole many more years of useful life.

If you happen to see a problem with a power line, pole or electrical equipment, never attempt to access or correct the situation. Report any problems immediately by calling 1-800-726-2324. If you have questions or concerns with the contractors or inspections, please call the co-op.
