Candidate Question and Answers
Contemplating this question is a humbling thought process. I admit foremost that I’m not a politician. My strengths as a member of the Board of Directors are the result on my life experiences.
I believe my years as a commercial photographer provided me with experiences and an understanding not only of photography, but also of running a business and working with people. I had the opportunity to share the technical skills and knowledge of photography with my students at HACC and provide guidance as they embarked on their own careers. This expanded my skills in communicating and working with diverse groups of people.
Additional experiences I have had that shaped my approach to leadership, are my many years in the military. This work exposed me to a totally different set of circumstances, values and responsibilities. During my years in the military, I was influenced by people who guided and educated me, providing me with opportunities to solve a broader set of challenges, including leading and serving others [as if our lives depended upon it].
As the result of serving 17 years on the Adams Board of Directors, I have deepened my knowledge of the electric cooperative organization through yearly seminars and training courses. Experience gained on the board cannot be matched by any other means.
In conclusion, perhaps the greatest strength I bring to the Adams Board of Directors is that of an independent thinker who has the willingness and fortitude to ask pertinent questions and to engage in discussions that can be challenging at times. Our Adams Cooperative members expect and deserve no less from their Board representatives.
One challenge that will always be constant is the need to provide electricity to our members at an affordable fair price and still maintain a solid healthy business for our members now and in the future.
Most importantly, I want to serve as an Adams CoOp Director to ensure we are getting excellent electrical service at the best value for the dollar. At the same time, I want to represent my fellow members, ensuring that they are ALL being treated fairly and courteously, based on the guidance and enforcement of our CoOp policies and bylaws.
I am proud to be a part of a dynamic, forward-thinking business, like Adams Electric Cooperative! The people here are professional, dedicated to their work, and express happiness to be working here.
I believe that morale in the workplace is essential for productivity and safety – and the individuals here seem to know that; there is a strong sense of team spirit!
